Our family dental care team knows how hard it can be to stick to your normal routine when you’re stuck or working at home. But keeping your teeth healthy and avoiding certain foods that can damage your teeth can prevent future teeth problems.
Brush Twice a Day
How many times a day are you brushing your teeth? If the answer is less than two, you might want to prioritize your teeth brushing routine. The best time to brush is after you’ve eaten to help remove any food particles that are left between your teeth. You can also brush your teeth in the morning to help remove bad breath and start your day with clean — and flossed — teeth.
Make sure you floss your teeth at least once a day. The bristles of your toothbrush can’t reach in the spaces between your teeth, so flossing is a good way to remove the food and plaque from those hard-to-reach places.
Drink Less Acidic Drinks
Acidic drinks — like sodas and fruit juices — can soften your teeth and dissolve the minerals in your tooth enamel, leading to cavities or other tooth problems. While you can indulge in a soda or juice occasionally, brush your teeth to help prevent tooth damage.
Sugary foods are often the culprit for causing tooth decay. If you have a sweet tooth, work on avoiding some of the sugary foods you eat each day. When you eat sugar, the molecules present in sugar combine with your saliva and the bacteria in your mouth, leading to a buildup of plaque and other tooth problems. If you eat sugar throughout the day, take some time to brush and remove any sugar before it can react with the bacteria in your mouth.
Drink Plenty of Water
This might not sound like a way to keep your teeth healthy, but water is great for your teeth! Water helps flush out any food that’s stuck between your teeth, along with removing acid from anything you’ve drunk.
