Brushing

How often are you brushing your teeth? For the best dental hygiene, we recommend brushing your teeth at least twice a day. If you’re able, brush your teeth after every meal to help remove food particles that might be stuck between your teeth.

Flossing

Whenever you’re brushing your teeth, make sure you pair that with flossing. This means that you should floss at least twice a day, as recommended by the American Dental Association.

The importance of flossing and how to floss is something we’ve already covered on our blog. If you want to learn more about flossing, give those posts a read:

Low-Sugar Foods

Take a look at the type of food you’re eating. The end of the year is usually filled with different types of sweet treats that are high in sugar. But sugary foods can cause damage to your teeth and gums, especially if they’re part of your usual diet. That’s because the bacteria in the plaque eat the sugar in your mouth, releasing harmful acids. The more sugar you eat, the more you expose your teeth and gums to those harmful chemicals.

If you still want to indulge in the occasional sweet treat, consider brushing your teeth after eating to help remove the leftover sugar from between your teeth.

Dental Visit

Make sure you’re visiting your dentist for a routine checkup and cleaning every six months, or twice a year. These routine visits can help prevent damage from happening to your teeth and detect the early signs of a cavity or something more serious.

Try to get in the habit of scheduling your routine appointments. If you’re overdue for your cleaning, make it a priority this year!

Toothbrush Replacement

If you’re brushing your teeth twice a day every day, then the bristles on your toothbrush can start to wear out. If you continue brushing your teeth with worn out bristles, those bristles can be abrasive on your gums, leading to other problems.

To be safe, make sure you replace your toothbrush every three to four months!
